In Bengaluru, BBMP officials reported a significant decrease in sewage flow into the Koramangala stormwater drain, from 120 MLD to about 8 MLD, after the implementation of the K-100 Urban Waterway Project. However, local residents and businesses near the drain argue that the foul smell and sewage mix in the water persist. The K-100 project, receiving a Rs 175 crore government fund for drain infrastructure redevelopment, spans 9.2 km from KR Market to Bellandur Lake. BBMP plans to finish the project by the end of 2024. Efforts to prevent sewage entry include a 5 MLD capacity sewage treatment plant near Kalasipalya and the installment of concrete rings and purifying plants along the drain. BWSSB is constructing another treatment plant near Shantinagar, to be completed this year, aiming to halt sewage discharge. Retaining walls, bridges, lighting, landscaping, and other enhancements have been completed as part of the project. Service roads and pipelines have been constructed to prevent rainwater from entering the drain, as planned by BBMP in 2021.The project was initially planned to be finished by 2023 but subsequently missed multiple deadlines.
